Headmaster Appointment
Mr Jarred Williams has been appointed as Headmaster, commencing Term 3. Mr Williams will be the school’s fourteenth headmaster. Mr Williams has had significant senior leadership experience across a variety of settings, including Hamilton Boys’ High School, Christchurch Boys’ High School and most recently as Deputy Principal at Hillcrest High School.

Level 2 Agriculture Fieldtrip
The Y12 Agriculture classes are offsite on Wednesday, 09 June. The group will visit the Stortford Lodge Saleyard and Progressive Meats Limited. The teacher in charge is Mr R Newman rnewman@nbhs.school.nz
Level 3 Hospitality Café
In addition to the Wednesday morning barista coffee being produced by our hospitality students, the Level 3 Hospitality Café runs on Friday, 11 June. Highly anticipated by the staff the hospitality café is an opportunity for our 18 Level 3 Hospitality students to showcase their talents. The students must demonstrate a multitude of techniques and skills preparing a two-course menu. The buttermilk fried chicken burger appears an early staff favourite.
The Great Plate Debate
The senior debating team takes part in the Great Plate Debate on Wednesday, 09 June. This is an annual event, funded by Rotary, between NBHS and NGHS. The debate carries a significant prize, with $2000.00 donated to the winning team’s school library for textbooks or technology. We are the current holders of the Kauri Plate. The debate is hosted at the Taradale Club and begins at 7 pm.

Junior Exams
The Junior exams are in Week 7 & 8. We see these exams as an important learning opportunity for the Y9 & Y10s. Developing skills related to exam preparation, time management and applying themselves across a sustained period are fundamental steps toward success in the Senior School, or with NCEA.

Goal-Setting Update & Progress Report
Tutor teachers will be contacting parents / caregivers over the coming weeks to update them on their son’s progress toward the goals that they collectively set in Term One. Contact may be by phone or email.
Progress Reports are emailed to parents / caregivers twice a term. The most recent progress report was emailed Tuesday, 01 June. If you did not receive your son’s progress report please contact Mrs J Gourdie jgourdie@nbhs.school.nz to update your contact details.

East Coast North Island Cross Country
Following some successful results across the juniors at the recent Super 8 Schools cross country the boys will compete in the ECNI Cross Country on Wednesday, 09 June in Gisborne.
Motocross – South Waikato MX Challenge
Following recent success, a number of students will attend this event Friday 11 – Saturday, 12 June in Tokoroa.
North Island Secondary School Swimming Championship
Our premier swimmers will compete in the North Island Secondary School Swimming Championships Saturday 12 – Sunday, 13 June in Wellington.
Super 8 Schools Rugby
On the back of a successful pre-season, the 1st and 2nd XV begin their Super 8 Schools programme on Saturday, 12 June. The squads travel to Gisborne on Friday to play Gisborne Boys’ High School. Sideline.Live has been streaming Super 8 Schools rugby for a number of years. They have expanded their coverage to include the Super 8 Schools tournaments for other codes. This year they will be streaming hockey, basketball and football. This is a subscription service. Old boy and ex-Head Prefect Scinde House, Erin Walshe, from My Action Replay Clubs has gifted the school a streaming unit for Term 3. A non-subscription provider, the streaming service is aimed at community sport. This week we streamed the 1st XI hockey game versus Wairarapa College.
