Napier Boys High School Week AheadWeek Ahead: Week 2, Term 1
Monday, 07 – Sunday, 13 February

Kia ora koutou,

It’s so great to have our students back. Even as we start the new year with the uncertainty of Omicron. We are determined to ensure we engage boys in their learning and provide opportunities where boys can interact and build positive relationships with each other. Covid over the last couple of years has taken so much of this away.

We want to begin the school year well. To do this it is important we create a safe caring environment where we all support each other. We all must also personally take responsibility to follow the recommended health and safety protection guidelines to keep us safe.

I ask that as a community, and as a whānau, we work together in doing what is needed to be compliant as we take a precautionary stance to restrict the affects Covid might have on our school and community. The protocols under Red for schools are designed to protect us, giving us a roadmap in which we can help to take care of each other. Your cooperation is most appreciated.

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Eduart Tremain as Head Boy for 2022. He will be ably supported by both Max Ratcliffe and Gus Brown as Deputy Heads. All three are outstanding, hardworking individuals who have excelled academically and have been successful in their chosen co-curricular endeavours. They are immensely passionate and proud of Napier Boys’ High School and will serve and lead the student body with enthusiasm and integrity. Their families should be extremely proud of the fine young men they have raised and become.

Napier Boys’ is a special place. I look forward to welcoming your sons back to the 2022 year, in the days ahead. I hope very much that it is untroubled and positive.

Nga mihi nui,

Jarred Williams
Headmaster

Prefects and Academic Colours Assembly

The 2022 Prefects and Academic Colours Assembly took place today. Here, the school acknowledges the previous year’s top scholars and recognises our new prefect group.

Under the Red setting, this was a closed event, limited to prize winners and the new prefect group, and streamed into the classrooms.

You can watch a recording of the assembly here: https://www.youtube.com/c/NapierBoysHighSchool/videos

A reminder that the school is closed Monday, 07 February for Waitangi Day.

Tuesday, 08 February will be Day 2 on the school timetable.

These digital copies will be available until 30 June, 2022.

Students can apply for a review or reconsideration of their marked script. Information on this process is found here:  Reviews and reconsiderations » NZQA

We encourage your son to consult his subject teacher prior to applying for a review or reconsideration.

The closing date for NZQA reviews and reconsiderations is 25 February.

What’s Due? NCEA Internal Assessments

We will begin adding due dates for upcoming NCEA internal assessments in the Senior School, here. This will commence from the middle of Term 1.

KAMAR Parent Portal

Parents / caregivers can access results and school reports through the KAMAR Parent Portal. Log-in details will be emailed in the coming weeks. If you have difficulty accessing the portal, please contact Mrs J Gourdie jgourdie@nbhs.school.nz

You can access the KAMAR parent portal here: https://kamar.nbhs.school.nz/

Summer Sports Registration

Summer Sport registration is now open. The information has been shared with your son.

To participate in a sport, students need to complete the online registration process. The online registration outlines the sports available and related charges.

Registration can be done here or scan this QR Code to open the form.

Red Setting Protocol & Procedure

Sport and co-curricular activities under the ‘Red’ setting is problematic. The current settings do not allow for schools to play inter-school fixtures on their grounds. For example, we could run our own in-house Wednesday Junior T20 cricket league at school. But we are unable to play a Colts Cricket fixture against Havelock North High School on our grounds. Further, we are unable to have spectators on our school grounds.

This is an evolving situation. Expectations around school sport may change. We will notify any updates through the school notices and the Week Ahead.
