Year 9 Enrolment, 2023

Enrolment packs for 2023 Year 9 enrolment are now available at all contributing schools.

Our information evening will be Tuesday, 23 August.

Y8 students and their families wanting a personal tour can arrange this by contacting Mrs White, Headmaster’s PA, HeadmastersPA@nbhs.school.nz or ph. 8335913.

We are anticipating significant enrolment at Y9 in 2023 and encourage in and out-of-zone families to enrol ASAP. We appreciate you sharing this information in the community.

Parents and whānau can enrol directly by clicking here.

Accord Teacher-only Day

The third teacher-only day this year in support of the NCEA Change Programme will be Friday, 19 August. The school will be closed on this day. This is a change from what was published earlier, in the school calendar. Monday, 22 August will be Day 1 on the school timetable.

School Board – Election

We are seeking nominations to join the NBHS Board. This is a fantastic way to contribute to the school community and support your son’s education.  No experience is required to take on the role. There is plenty of training and support available.

Please give some thought to standing or nominating someone else. You can nominate yourself or someone else here

Women Raising Boys Hui

The NBHS Parents League cordially invite all women caregivers within our NBHS community to attend our third Women Raising Boys Hui.

This will be an informative evening hosted by Kirstin Taylor, Senior Master, with the Napier Family Centre giving an overview on surviving the challenge and finding ways to improve communication and build on your relationship with your sons.

This is a non-judgmental environment and allows fostering of ideas and strategies.

The date for this is Thursday 08 September – 6.00pm for a 6.30pm start in the NBHS Memorial Library.

Please click on the link for full information and to pre-register your attendance https://forms.office.com/r/wrKxyM1zpE

For any information, please contact scook@nbhs.school.nz or 06 833 5900 extn 236.

Communication & Contact Details

During Week 2 we will be asking the students to check their contact details. It is critical that parents / caregivers notify the school of changes to their contact details – physical address, email and phone. Changes should be updated with the school office by emailing Mrs J Gourdie jgourdie@nbhs.school.nz

In the case of an emergency or for urgent updates we may use a text messaging / SMS service. Increasingly we use the School App to push out updates. This is useful for parents / caregivers and students. Download ‘SchoolAppsNZ’ and select Napier Boys’ High School.

Policy Reviews

Our school policies are with ‘Schooldocs’. The school community is invited to review and comment on specific policies and procedures.

Senior Subject Selection, 2023

Course selection information will be made available in Week 3 for students going into Y11 – Y13 in 2023. This information will be made available via email. At this time, you will receive a link to download the Course Guide 2023 and instructions how to input the subject selection via the KAMAR Parent Portal.

We encourage you to collectively make an ‘informed decision’ regarding the selection of subjects. Making an informed decision means talking to various parties, for example employers, tertiary institutions, teachers, deans and our Careers Adviser, Ms Laurs.

Bookings for Ms Laurs can be made directly by students at the Careers Office, or ph. 8335900 ext. 220.

At home, encourage your son to lead out conversations and inquiries related to:

  • What I enjoy doing?
  • What am I good at?
  • What do others say I am good at?
  • What type of career / industry is going to give me the most enjoyment? Job satisfaction? Work / life balance?
  • Career pathways – what subjects are required for possible careers? Up to what level of NCEA?
  • School subjects and learning areas – what credits are available? Are these Achievement or Unit Standards? What pathway(s) does the subject track toward? Employment? Tertiary?

Further information will be made available in the coming weeks.

Senior Course Information Evening

To support our students and whānau with their course selection we will be running a course information evening on Monday, 15 August, starting 6:00pm, in the school Memorial Library.

This is targeted at the students going into Y11 and whānau new to NCEA.

KAMAR Parent Portal
