School Ball
The School Ball, held at the iconic Old Church, is Saturday, 13 August starting 7:30pm.
Cornford Cup
The annual inter-house road race, the Cornford Cup, takes place Thursday, 18 August. For some students this is a mad dash, with some slick times, for others it is rising to the challenge and adding to house points. Students require the appropriate clothing – PE or house colours – and footwear.
Accord Teacher-only Day
The third teacher-only day this year in support of the NCEA Change Programme is Friday, 19 August. The school will be closed on this day. This is a change from what was published earlier, in the school calendar.
The school office will be closed on this day.
Monday, 22 August will be Day 1 on the school timetable.
Year 9 Enrolment, 2023
Enrolment packs for 2023 Year 9 enrolment are now available at all contributing schools.
Our information evening will be Tuesday, 23 August starting 6:30pm in the school Henderson Hall.
Y8 students and their families wanting a personal tour can arrange this by contacting Mrs White, Headmaster’s PA, HeadmastersPA@nbhs.school.nz or ph. 8335913.
We are anticipating significant enrolment at Y9 in 2023 and encourage in and out-of-zone families to enrol ASAP. We appreciate you sharing this information in the community.

Uniform Shop
The uniform shop is now open in the new site in P Block. The entrance is adjacent to the visitor’s carpark, Chambers Street, near P3.
The new shop is open on Tuesday, 3:00 – 4:30pm and Thursday 1:10 – 2:10pm.
In the interim, as the shop is set-up, students can still place and pay for orders at the school office, with Mrs Bellamy. However, we are not accepting email orders.
Emergency Evacuation Plan – Tsunami
The school has been reviewing its Emergency Management Plan. Napier Boys’ is in a Tsunami Evacuation Zone. In the event of a strong earthquake and / or official warning we will evacuate along Georges Drive and / or greenbelt to the Botanical Gardens. If possible communication will be made with parents / whānau by SMS text message or email. Students are to be collected from the Botanical Gardens.
Women Raising Boys Hui
The NBHS Parents League cordially invite all women caregivers within our NBHS community to attend our third Women Raising Boys Hui.
This will be an informative evening hosted by Kirstin Taylor, Senior Master, with the Napier Family Centre giving an overview on surviving the challenge and finding ways to improve communication and build on your relationship with your sons.
This is a non-judgmental environment and allows fostering of ideas and strategies.
The date for this is Thursday 08 September – 6.00pm for a 6.30pm start in the NBHS Memorial Library.

Senior Subject Selection, 2023
This has been delayed. Course selection information will now be made available from Tuesday, 16 August for students going into Y10 – Y13 in 2023. This information will be made available via email. At this time, you will receive a link to download the Course Guide 2023 and instructions how to input the subject selection via the KAMAR Parent Portal.
We encourage you to collectively make an ‘informed decision’ regarding the selection of subjects. Making an informed decision means talking to various parties, for example employers, tertiary institutions, teachers, deans and our Careers Adviser, Ms Laurs.
Bookings for Ms Laurs can be made directly by students at the Careers Office, or ph. 8335900 ext. 220.
Senior Course Information Evening
To support our students and whānau with their course selection we will be running a course information evening on Monday, 15 August, starting 6:00pm, in the school Memorial Library.
This is targeted at students going into Y11 and whānau new to NCEA.
Y13 Agriculture Trip
The Y13 Agriculture class is offsite on Monday 15 & Tuesday 16, August. They are visiting two iconic farms, or stations. The group spend time at Rangitaiki Station, the home of New Zealand’s largest deer herd. They are then at Waikato Stud, currently New Zealand’s most successful thoroughbred nursery.
Y12 Geography Trip
Throughout the week the Y12 Geography classes are out through their timetabled period at MTG Hawke’s Bay, part of their earthquake study.
Gisborne Boys’ High School Exchange
We have five Junior teams involved in an exchange with Gisborne Boys’ High School on Wednesday, 17 August. The exchange involves: Colts Football, Colts Hockey, Junior A Basketball, U14 & U15 Rugby.
1st XI Hockey – Hawke’s Bay Division 1 Final
The 1st XI takes on Taradale High School in the final for the local Division 1 competition.

The game is at Cape Physio, Park Island on Wednesday, 17 August. The start time is currently not available.
National 1st XV Rugby Championship – Hurricanes Region
The 1st XV host Palmerston North Boys’ High School for a place in the semi-final, Hurricanes region. This is on the back of the 1sts Polson victory and a very strong finish to their Super 8 season.
Get along and support the school and 1st XV Saturday, 20 August. Kick-off is at 1:00pm.
