Week Ahead: Week 8 Term 2, Monday 12th June – Sunday 18th June
PPTA Strike Action – Rostering Home
We have received a directive from the PPTA advising that industrial action by PPTA members will continue from Monday 12 June to Friday 30 June (end of Term 2). The action has been extended to include two year levels per day, four days per week.
We will continue to send out app alert reminders the day before each rostering home day.
Rostering home will impact multiple year levels over multiple days in Week 8, as per:
- Monday 12 June Y11 and Y12
- Tuesday 13 June Y9 and Y13
- Wednesday 14 June Y10 and Y11
- Thursday 15 June Y12 and Y13
Day boys are required to stay home on these days.
A further complication is the impact on the junior exams and students completing the NCEA Literacy and Numeracy Common Assessment Tasks. Details of the changes are below.

Literacy & Numeracy Common Assessment
As per the earlier notice regarding the PPTA strike action, the NCEA Literacy and Numeracy Common Assessment Tasks will now take place on Tuesday 13 June – Numeracy (Period 1 & 2) and Thursday 15 June – Literacy / Writing (Pd 1 & 2) and Literacy / Reading (Pd 3 & 4). Thereafter, students should be prepared for normal lessons. Each assessment is two hours in length. These assessments act as a co-requisite for NCEA Level 1, where students must achieve Literacy and Numeracy to achieve Level 1 overall.
All Common Assessment Activities – literacy and numeracy – are completed online. Students are encouraged to bring their own device for this assessment. If your son does not have their own device, a school laptop will be provided.
Further information on these tasks can be found on the NCEA website: https://ncea.education.govt.nz/ncea-literacy-and-numeracy-students-and-whanau
Junior Assessment Week
Junior Assessment Week for Y9 and Y10s has been severely impacted by the PPTA industrial action. The planned exam schedule cannot run. Instead, students will complete their exam in their normal classes through Week 8.
Assessments are for one hour in each subject. Y9s have formal assessments for their core classes – English, Science, Mathematics and Social Studies. Y10s have assessments for their core classes and two options.
Results will be available for parents / whānau via the Kamar Parent Portal. Following the assessments, we will generate the final Term 2 Progress Report.
Pūhoro STEMM Regional Wānanga
Pūhoro is a kaupapa Māori approach to STEMM and seeks to improve pathways for Māori into high value careers in the Sciences and Technology.
We have thirty Y11 students out on Friday 16 June at a wānanga with the intention to inspire them into STEMM tertiary study and careers.
