PPTA Paid Union Meeting
As indicated last week, a PPTA Paid Union meeting runs Wednesday 15 May. School will finish at 12:00pm on this day. In-school supervision will be available for any day students who require this. If your son requires supervision through to 2:55pm, please contact the Acting Headmaster, Mr Russell drussell@nbhs.school.nz
Buses will depart at 12:15pm.
Bus Service & Tickets
This is a reminder that students travelling on the Taradale / Tamatea / Greenmeadows school bus service must purchase tickets directly from the bus driver. This is a cash sale, only.
Bus tickets cost $3 per trip. A ten-trip ticket can be purchased for $25. Limited term passes are available from the Tranzit Office,1 Waitane Place, Onekawa between 7:00am and 2:00pm for $210 (cash sale).
The school office does not sell bus tickets.
PINK T-SHIRT DAY – Anti Bullying campaign. Raising awareness and collecting Koha Thursday and Friday – National day Friday 17 May.
Napier Boys’ High School is joining the movement on Pink Shirt Day (Friday 17 May 2024), and encouraging our staff and students to Kōrero Mai, Kōrero Atu, Mauri Tū, Mauri Ora – Speak up,
Stand Together, Stop Bullying!
Bullying in Aotearoa is a real problem. We have the third-highest rate of school bullying out of 36 OECD countries and one in five workers feels discriminated against or bullied at work. Those bullied are far more likely to experience mental health issues.
Pink Shirt Day works to reduce bullying by celebrating diversity in all its forms and supporting schools, workplaces and communities to be safe, supportive, welcoming and inclusive for everyone.
To celebrate this important kaupapa our school leaders and prefects will be speaking regarding anti bullying messages in assembly and tutor class this week. In addition, we will be asking for any donations students would like to provide, that can be forward on to the Pink Shirt Day foundation.
Contact Sport Concussion presentation – NZ Rugby Thursday 16 May 10:30am – 11:00am.
Boys who are participants in contact sport, along with any other students wishing to attend are invited to a presentation from NZ Rugby regarding concussion and concussion protocols. NZ Rugby will present to this group in our school hall on Thursday morning at 10:30am.
L1 Commerce Fieldtrip to Mr. Apple Whakatu P1-P4 Tuesday
65 L1 commerce students will travel across to the Mr. Apple processing plant at Whakatu, Hastings. Students are observing the production processes involved in the Mr. Apple plant.
NBHS Barbershop Workshop Monday 13 May 8:00am-9:30am
Next Monday, a small group of aspiring Barbershop singers will attend a workshop hosted by Mr. Shirriffs (H.O.D Music). This will run again in Week 4 from 8:00am – 9:30am.
Senior Debating vs. Napier Girls High School Tuesday 14 May.
The senior debaters have a debate vs. Napier Girls’ High School in preparation for the Super 8 cultural festival later in the week.
Beef and Lamb Ag-innovation presentation Palmerston North – Wednesday 15 May L2 and L3 Ag students.
A small group of Agriculture students will accompany Mr. Newman across to Palmerston North for an Ag-innovation lectures around new and progressive techniques in the primary industries.

Super 8 Schools Group Cultural Festival
The Super 8 Cultural Festival runs Wednesday 15 – Friday 17 May. The event is being hosted by Hamilton Boys’ High School at the Great Lake Centre in Taupō. The festival involves art, chess, debating, Kapa Haka, Pasifika, music solo and group, oratory and theatre sports.
NBHS Blood Drive
The New Zealand Blood Service will be onsite on Tuesday 21 May in the Henderson Hall 9am – 2pm. At this time, we are encouraging our senior students to contribute to this critical community service. Donations are used for those going through cancer treatment, undergoing surgery or in a traumatic incident.
Students over 16yo, in good health and weighing more than 50kg can give blood on this day.
International Student Homestay Families Needed
Napier Boys’ High School are recruiting hosts for our new international students, arriving Term 3.
We are looking for hosts to accommodate and care for new students from Germany, Switzerland, Hong Kong, Thailand and Japan. Some students are short-term. Others will stay through to the end of the school year, or beyond.
Hosting is a rewarding experience where your family will make worldwide, lifelong connections.
A generous remuneration package is available to support our host families.

Literacy and Numeracy Common Assessment Activities (CAA)
Year 11 students who have not yet achieved Level 1 Literacy or Numeracy have been entered for the upcoming Common Assessment Activities (CAA). The CAA will run in Week 4 and 5 of Term 2. Students who have not yet met the requirement in either Literacy Reading or Writing have been entered into a Microsoft Team. This MS Team will have practice questions, Quill activities and important notices for these students. If your son is unsure if he has or has not met the Literacy or Numeracy requirement, this can be found in his results on the KAMAR portal (student or parent) or MyMahi.
