Napier Boys High School Week Ahead

Week Ahead: Week  6 Term 2, Monday 3rd June – Sunday 9th June

Teacher-only Day

Following King’s Birthday, the school is closed on Tuesday, 04 June for teacher professional learning development.

The school will reopen on Wednesday 05 June. This is Day 6 on the school timetable.

Y11 Semi-formal

The Y11 semi-formal is being hosted by Napier Girls’ High School in their hall on Thursday 06 June. The event runs 7:00 – 9:00pm. Y11s that are attending the event will receive their ticket at school on the day of the event.

Upcoming Events

Please take the time to look at this school newsletter, the ‘Week Ahead’. The Week Ahead outlines upcoming school activities. Urgent updates will be pushed-out via School Bridge, or in emergency via an SMS.

We have moved to a digital school calendar. The school calendar can be accessed here: KAMAR  or SchoolBridge

May Progress Report

The May progress report will be emailed to parents / caregivers in Week 6. This report offers an overview of your son’s achievement and effort. For Y9s the report shows information for their first trimester option class.

If you do not receive the report, please update your details by contacting Adrienne Burt aburt@nbhs.school.nz

CAA – Literacy and Numeracy

Over the last two weeks students in Year 10 and 11 have been completing the corequisite requirements for their Level 1 NCEA certificate. It was pleasing to see so many students confident in completing these assessments. These digital tests are marked by NZQA and our current timeline for results being published is at the start of August. These assessments are not marked by school staff. If you have any queries regarding your son’s progress, please email gbundle@nbhs.school.nz

Y9 Readers Cup

On Thursday 06 June we have two Y9 teams competing in the Readers Cup.  Teams have to read six books and respond to questions about each of the books.

Junior Assessment Week

Junior Assessment Week for Y9 and Y10 students runs Monday 17 – Friday 21 June. Assessments are for one hour in each subject. Y9s have formal assessments for their core classes – English, Science, Mathematics and Social Studies. Y10s have assessments for their core classes and two options.

One intention of the formal assessments at Y9 and Y10 is to build opportunities for our young men to familiarise themselves with some of the experiences they will face in the senior school. Major ‘takeaways’ should be understanding the value of preparation, the type of study programme that works best for them and learning how to manage their time in an exam setting. During your son’s most recent tutor class dedicated revision advice / suggestions have been shared via the MyMahi App.

Results will be available for parents / whānau via the Kamar Parent Portal. Following the assessments, we will generate the final Term 2 Progress Report. Thereafter, Parent / Teacher Interviews run in Week 10. Information related to booking interviews will follow later this term.
