Wellbeing – Resilience

Last week we added an article about building parental resilience. We often use the phrase, ‘resilience’ with our boys. But what is ‘resilience’ and how can we build this?

The following presentation unpacks what resilience looks like and how we can improve our resilience. The presentation is from Dr Lucy Hone, a Christchurch wellbeing / resilience expert. Dr Hone’s experiences in Christchurch – including the tragic loss of her 12yo daughter in a rural car crash in 2014, which many of us remember – have fostered her science-backed programme to train ourselves to get through challenges.

We encourage you to watch the following TED Talk. Dr Hone outlines three habits of resilient people. All are ‘habits’ that can help our young men, and our wider community.

Tertiary Evening – Advanced Notice

The Careers Department is running their Tertiary Evening Wednesday, 27 October. The event is in the Holt Planetarium. It begins at 6.30pm.

This highly informative event is open to all Year 13s and their whānau. It is a celebratory and supportive evening for this cohort as they transition out of school and into the workplace, apprenticeships and tertiary study.

The following tertiary organisations will have representatives in attendance – University of Canterbury, Victoria University, Massey University, and Eastern Institute of Technology. A representative from Studylink will outline information regarding student loans and allowances. Former Head Boy Harry Averill will speak about his transition to, and time at, Otago University.
