Headmaster’s Pōwhiri
The school will formally welcome our fifteenth Headmaster, Mr Simon Coe, on Monday, 05 August. The pōwhiri begins at 10:00am.
We invite whānau and old boys to support the school through their attendance.
Year 9 Enrolment, 2025
Our information evening is Tuesday 13 August. Interested families can join a small group tour at any time between 5:30 – 6:30pm. There will be an introduction from the Headmaster at 6:20 and 7:05pm.

University Applications & Halls of Residence
Students who have achieved Merit / Excellence in NCEA Level 2 can apply for a scholarship to attend a university in 2025. Mrs Kettle, Careers, has notified eligible students.

Mrs Kettle is available on Monday and Tuesday, Period 1,2,3 & 4 and at lunchtime to assist your son with their application.
Halls of Residence applications opened Thursday 1 August. Students needs to complete the CCRF form, then submit their university applications online. Applications are due mid-September. It is advisable to submit these as early as possible.

Senior Subject Selection, 2025
Course selection information will be made available in Week 4 for students going into Y11 – Y13 in 2025. This information will be made available via email. At this time, you will receive a link to download the Course Guide, 2025 and instructions how to input the subject selection via SchoolBridge.
We encourage you to collectively make an ‘informed decision’ regarding the selection of subjects. Making an informed decision means talking to various parties. For example employers, tertiary institutions, teachers, deans and our Careers Adviser, Mr Te Rito.
At home, encourage your son to lead out conversations and inquiries related to:
- What I enjoy doing?
- What am I good at?
- What do others say I am good at?
- What type of career / industry is going to give me the most enjoyment? Job satisfaction? Work / life balance?
- Career pathways – what subjects are required for possible careers? Up to what level of NCEA?
- School subjects and learning areas – what credits are available? Are these Achievement or Unit Standards? What pathway(s) does the subject track toward? Employment? Tertiary?
NCEA Information Night
With recent changes to Level 1 NCEA and the Literacy and Numeracy requirements, the school is hosting an NCEA information night for parents. This information night will allow you to ask questions about the recent changes, how this may affect your son’s academic outcomes and how this may affect his course planning for 2025. This is intended for parents with sons in Year 11. This event will be held at 7:00pm in the Memorial Library on Wednesday 21 August.
Parents will be asked to RSVP through a SchoolBridge form that will be emailed out to Year 11 students.

Literacy and Numeracy Common Assessment Activities
Students who completed the Literacy and Numeracy Common Assessment Activities (CAAs) in Term 2 have had some results released. They can check this through their MyMahi, Kamar or NZQA profile. Results for the Literacy – Writing and Numeracy will be released in Week 3 of Term 3.
It is the school’s intention to enter the remaining Year 10 students (all except 10XG and 10XH) into the second Literacy and Numeracy CAA in Week 7 and 8 of Term 3. It is imperative that students are present during these weeks for these externally assessed standards. These Literacy and Numeracy standards are important in your son being able to achieve Level 1 NCEA.
Derived Grade/Benchmark Exams
The school have scheduled our Benchmark exams for Week 10 of Term 3. All students completing NCEA subjects should be present for these exams. These exams allow students to have a derived grade if they are unable to sit or are affected by illness during the end of year exams. NZQA requires the school to report a grade before the external examinations for each student. Each year, the school processes over 30 derived grade applications for students who due to unforeseen circumstances, cannot attend the exams. It is important that your son attends these exams in the final week of the term to allow him to have a derived grade if an unforeseen event occurs.

Super 8 Hockey
The 1st XI travel to Rotorua for their Super 8 Schools Group tournament, 5-7 August. They then back-up the day they return to play their local HB Hockey Division 1 quarter final. Fixtures are being livestreamed and can be viewed here.
