Teacher-only Day

The school is closed Friday,15 November for teacher professional learning development. There are no NZQA examinations scheduled for this day. The school will reopen Monday 18 November. This is Day 3 on the school timetable.

Dental Planet

Dental Planet will be open on Friday 15 November for treatments. Students will be given appointment times early in Week 5 if they are scheduled to be seen on Friday. As this is a Teacher Only Day, students will not be expected to come in uniform. You support in ensuring your son attends his appointment would be appreciated.

Junior Assessment Week

Junior Assessment Week for Y9 and Y10 students is in Week 7, Monday 25 – Friday 29 November. Assessments are for 70mins in each subject. Y9s have formal assessments for their core classes – English, Science, Mathematics and Social Studies. Y10s have assessments for their core classes and two options.

One intention of the formal assessments at Y9 and Y10 is to build opportunities for our young men to familiarise themselves with some of the experiences they will face in the senior school. Major ‘takeaways’ should be understanding the value of preparation, the type of study programme that works best for them and learning how to manage their time in an exam setting. During tutor class, dedicated revision advice / suggestions have been shared via the MyMahi App.

Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday
Year 9 Mathematics Social Studies Science English
Year 10 English Pd1:Option #1

All examinations / assessments are during Period 2. The exception is the Y10 option classes on Tuesday 26 November.

Results will be available for parents / whānau via the Kamar Parent Portal.

Uniform Shop

The Uniform Shop will reopen Tuesday, 19 November. For urgent uniform orders, your son can purchase items at the School Office.

 Careers

If your son is considering applying for a student allowance or loan they should complete the eligibility test. This requires a Real Me account.

All applications for a student allowance or a student loan must be completed by 16 December. More information and instructions can be accessed at www.studylink.govt.nz

Your son should be checking their personal email account for updates related to their application/s.

Mrs Kettle, Careers Assistant, is available for support LKettle@nbhs.school.nz

NCEA Examinations

The National Secondary Examination Timetable can be accessed here.

Please support us to ensure that your son arrives at the exam centre on time and prepared. They require their writing equipment in a transparent plastic bag, their admission slip and if required water in a ‘clear’ drink bottle. If they are completing a digital examination their device, obviously, should be fully charged. More detailed instructions for the external assessments are available here.

Admission slips can be reprinted. Your son will need to reprint this from their NZQA account. This can be accessed here. Your son will require their NSN number to access his NZQA account. If your son cannot access his account, they must report to the hall foyer 30 minutes before their scheduled examination.

Study leave does not mean that support from subject teachers stops. Your son should liaise with his subject teacher regarding tutorials and support through the study leave period. This can be done via MS Teams or by email.

Students in 10XG and 10XH continue their study leave as per:

Completing L1 History: Wednesday 13 and Thursday 14 November

Completing L1 Science: Wednesday 20 and Thursday 21 November

Students who are in 10HX but not in the L1 Mathematics or Science programme will go to the timetabled 10XG core classes on that day.

Senior Reports & Accessing NCEA Results

Final Senior Reports will be emailed to parents / caregivers during Week 5.

Students can check entries and access their results via the NZAQ website. This is where they can check their examination results too, from late January. Information about how to access this is available here. They will require their National Student Identification Number (NSI).
