Winter Illness

We are seeing levels of general winter illness increase across the school community.

Health New Zealand has asked that we communicate the following message in relation to winter illness, with advice related to when to keep school-age children at home.

If your son is unwell and remaining at home please update the school attendance@nbhs.school.nz  or phone 06 8335901.

Communication & Contact Details

It is important that parents / caregivers notify the school of changes to their contact details – physical address, email and phone. Changes should be updated with the school office by emailing nbhs@nbhs.school.nz or phone 06 8335901

In the case of an emergency or for urgent updates we will use a text messaging / SMS service. Thus, having accurate records is critical.

Start of day / lateness

Thank you for your support through Week 5. The volume of lateness has reduced, noticeably.

We will continue to have senior staff at the front of school monitoring lateness. As per our expectation/s, students arriving late will be required to make-up time through the school day.

Y13 Leavers Gear

The 2024 Leavers Catalogue and information related to ordering can be viewed here.

The final day for payment / orders is Monday, 26 August.

Mid-Term Break – advance notice

Information about course selection and the Course Guide for students going into Y10 – Y13 in 2025 is available here.

Subject selection must be completed by Friday, 30 September. You can complete your son’s 2025 programme here.

Level 1 Externally Assessed Standards

In numerous Level 1 courses, students are completing external assessments during in-class time. Subsequently the assessments are sent to NZQA for marking.

Students have been reminded that these assessments are treated like all NZQA externally assessed / monitored assessments. Students who breach the conditions of these assessments should expect a Not Achieved grade.

Students will access their results in January 2025.

Year 10 Literacy and Numeracy Common Assessment Activities (CAA)

Year 10 students, excluding 10HX and 10XG, will be completing the Literacy and Numeracy CAAs during Week 8 and 9. Students in Year 11 who have not yet achieved these standards will also resit their CAAs.

Numeracy: Friday 13 September

Literacy: Tuesday 17 September

These assessments will be held during Period 2 classes. Students are encouraged to bring their own device for these assessments.

Benchmark Examinations

NCEA Benchmark exams are in Week 10. All students completing NCEA subjects must attend the related exam/s. The benchmark exams offer a significant checkpoint for your son as he progresses forward to the NZQA examination/s in Term 4. Further, the benchmark exams are used to generate a derived grade if a student is unable to sit or are affected by illness during the Term 4 NZQA examinations.
