Week Ahead: Week 7 Term 2, Monday 10th June – Sunday 16th June
Tools for learning – Blended Learning at Napier Boys’ High School
At Napier Boys’ High School we have a blended learning approach to our BYOD programme. All students, from Y9 – Y13, will use both pen / paper and a device in class. The use of devices varies from subject to subject, and topic to topic. Devices are used to enhance your son’s learning and provide him with skills to navigate the rapidly changing world.
Many senior NCEA assessments and summative assessments in the junior school are completed using a device. In most courses, the volume of assessment does ramp-up through Term 2 and 3. Boys need to be organised and prepared for these. This means bringing their device to school.
One of our values is self-management. Part of self-management is being prepared for lessons and bringing the right equipment to school. This includes bringing a device fully-charged. We ask for caregiver / parent support to ensure our young men are doing this daily, so that we can maximise their learning.
If there are issues related to bringing, or using, a device it is vital that contact is made with your son’s House Dean.
FMG Region-off: East Coast – Vote Now!
We ask for the community’s support to back our young farming champions, Baxter Twist and George Giblin. Both boys are in Y11. They are involved in the FMG Region-off.
The FMG Region-off teams up AgriKidsNZ, Junior and Young Farmer winners for a regional showdown. Each region earns points by completing community-focused challenges and public voting. You can support the boys by voting here.

Junior Assessment Week
Junior Assessment Week for Y9 and Y10 students runs Monday 17 – Friday 21 June. Assessments are for one hour in each subject. Y9s have formal assessments for their core classes – English, Science, Mathematics and Social Studies. Y10s have assessments for their core classes and two options.
One intention of the formal assessments at Y9 and Y10 is to build opportunities for our young men to familiarise themselves with some of the experiences they will face in the senior school. Major ‘takeaways’ should be understanding the value of preparation, the type of study programme that works best for them and learning how to manage their time in an exam setting. During your son’s most recent tutor class dedicated revision advice / suggestions have been shared via the MyMahi App.
The schedule is as per:
