Y12 Art Exhibition
Our Y12 Art students join with schools across Napier to exhibit their work at Creative Arts Napier over the next two weeks. This is a fantastic opportunity for our talented and creative young men. The exhibition opens tonight at 5:00pm.
‘Get Uniformed’ Online Shop
Many of you will have seen one of our entrepreneurial Y12 students in the media. Hugo Moffett started an online platform for whānau to sell / purchase used school uniform. The website includes listings from across Aotearoa New Zealand.

Y9 & Y10 Junior Social
The Junior Social with NGHS will be held in the NBHS Gymnasium on Thursday, 19 September. The theme is ‘Hawaiian’.
This is a ticketless event. Approval / parental permission is via SchoolBridge. Payment is made through Kamar. Once both are received, students will be added to a ‘door list’. There are no door sales. Entry cost is $10.

On the back of Winter Tournament week, mid-term break is Monday 09 September.
Tuesday 10 September will be Day 3 on the school calendar.
TUIA 2024: Māori and Pasifika Achievement Awards – Advance Notice

TUIA is an amazing event, acknowledging Māori and Pasifika achievement across all aspects of the school.
TUIA 2024 is now during Term 3, 6 – 8:00pm, Tuesday 17 September in the school Henderson Hall.

Communication & Contact Details
It is important that parents / caregivers notify the school of changes to their contact details – physical address, email and phone. Changes should be updated with the school office by emailing nbhs@nbhs.school.nz
In the case of an emergency or for urgent updates we will use a text messaging / SMS service. Thus, having accurate records is critical.
School Benchmark Senior Examinations
The school benchmark senior examinations will run Monday 23 – Friday, 27 September. This is Week 10, Term 3.
All students completing NCEA subjects must attend the related examination/s. The benchmark examination/s are a checkpoint for your son as he progresses forward to the NZQA examination/s in Term 4. Further, the benchmark exams are used to generate a derived grade if a student cannot undertake their Term 4 NZQA examination/s.
During the benchmark examinations, students in Years 11, 12 and 13 who have study leave attend school for their examinations, only. Some students may not be granted study leave. For example, student requiring additional support for numeracy and literacy. Students in10HX will have study leave on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. They will be expected at school on Tuesday and Thursday. Students in 10XG have study leave on the Wednesday morning before their L1 Geography examination that afternoon.
Morning examinations start at 8:40am. Afternoon examinations start at 1:10pm. This year the examinations will be in the Henderson Hall. Students must arrive at the Hall at least ten minutes before the start of their exam.

Level 1 Externally Assessed Standards
In numerous Level 1 courses, students are completing external assessments during in-class time. These assessments are completed in class and then sent to NZQA for marking. Students will be able to access their results in January 2025.
Students have been reminded that these assessments are treated like all NZQA externally assessed / monitored assessments. Students who breach the conditions of these assessments should expect a Not Achieved grade.
Year 10 Literacy and Numeracy Common Assessment Activities (CAA)
Year 10 students, excluding 10HX and 10XG, will be completing the Literacy and Numeracy CAAs during Week 8 and 9. Students in Year 11 who have not yet achieved these standards will also resit their CAAs.

Literacy: Tuesday 17 September
These assessments will be held during Period 2 classes. Students are encouraged to bring their own device for these assessments.
